SE Controls has over 28 years experience in delivering specialist smoke ventilation, natural ventilation control systems and smoke control systems to all sizes and types of buildings.
SE Controls' systems automatically open specific windows, doors, louvers, roof lights and AOVs to ventilate smoke and heat. We have the ability to design a fully integrated smoke or natural ventilation system providing tailored solutions to all types of buildings including apartments, offices, schools, colleges, hospitals and shopping centres.

Our Natural Ventilation Solution division (NVS) provides total, adaptive and tailored natural ventilation strategies for all types of new and refurbished building structures. We are passionate about delivering energy efficient, modern buildings that create a safer and healthier indoor environment for occupants.
Our complete turnkey solutions incorporate everything from strategy, design, supply, installation and commissioning through to maintenance and monitoring. They concentrate on automatically opening and closing windows and rooflights in a controlled manner, using Automated Opening Vents (AOVs), louvres, roof terminals and hatches.
Our aim is to ensure that low energy design and built-in natural ventilation principles are incorporated into every building from the outset. By coordinating all stakeholders - architects, consultants and main contractors - we ensure that every element of the specification and installation process is harmonised throughout.
SE Controls can provide customized ventilation solutions which allow our customers to enjoy cleaner, safer and more cost-effective working environments.
Our core competencies consist of the following 8 elements, to provide a professional full service offering to their clients
SE Controls provides CFD modelling for both smoke and natural ventilation systems to provide an efficient and compliant ventilation system. The latest industry standard CFD modelling tools are used to explore and design the optimum solution.
Continued investment in the latest available equipment and constant evaluation of construction methods assures we are always ahead of the competition, but also ensuring that SE Controls can deliver quality components in standard or special variants when required.
SE Controls have extensive warehousing and stocking capabilities which ensure prompt delivery to all customers. Our Highly efficient goods handling procedures paired with cutting edge tracking software enables our clients to be sure exactly what's happening with their order at every stage of the process.
SE Controls team of specialist and experienced Project Managers will be appointed to a single project from start to finish, to take the client through every step of the production process, from coordination of the design, to specification, installation and commissioning.
SE Controls team of experienced installers provide coverage across the whole of the UK and are on hand to install the smoke or natural ventilation system in accordance with the building schedule.
To ensure that the smoke or natural ventilation system performs against the design profile, all of SE Controls systems are fully inspected and pre-tested before installation, to ensure the installed system operates as it was designed.
SE Controls service and maintenance division provides 24 hour coverage throughout the UK, providing ongoing support on all installations. This is of paramount importance when our installations will be providing life safety function in busy working environments.
Our professional in-house trainers are always on hand, either at your offices or via our head office. Our training range offers courses from CPD presentations designed for industry awareness through to detailed “high level” training for our control systems. Our own Academy is beginning to be viewed as a pioneering service and it's available to you.

Adaptable natural ventilation is most effectively designed and utilized using careful and accurate design along with integration of openings within the envelope of the building; implementing a natural ventilation system can guide building design at the very first stages of conception. Alternatively it can be retro-fitted to already existing structures, even to already existing windows. We abide by the basic laws of stack and wind driven ventilation, using methods such as single sided and cross ventilation, are utilized into our internal screens and external facades, with a range of product components.

Automatic Opening Vents are typically used at high and low levels of the atria utilising the stack effect to flush out the stale warm air with replacement cool fresh air.

We Use external facades in our natural ventilation strategy to provide cross ventilation or single sided ventilation, to achieve a stable temperature and comfort within the working or learning environment.

The internal facades automatic opening vents (AOVs) typically are used in conjunction with the AOVs in the external facade and atria to provide a cross ventilation strategy.

Depending on the building envelope and structure, we can provide either a fire or code compliant solution which will facilitate safe occupancy, escape or increased visibility for the fire service when they enter the floor in question. With an extensive range of products to cater for any smoke ventilation needs, SE Controls provide compliant and certified products to ensure a life saving system and complete peace of mind.

The smoke ventilation system for an atria is used to establish a stable reservoir of smoke above a prescribed height to create a safe occupant escape in the event of a fire.

A certified Approved Document B natural smoke shaft utilises the buoyancy of hot smoke, by opening the automatic opening vent on the fire floor in conjunction with a AOV at the top of the shaft to naturally extract smoke from the common escape routes.
If a prescribed and certified solution is not a viable option for the building design a fire engineered solution is provided.
Should the corridor extend right through to the external wall an AOV can be installed to extract smoke from the common lobby/corridor.
The prime objective of a smoke ventilation system or strategy is to keep escape routes and stairways clear of smoke, by utilizing the natural buoyancy of the heated gases to exhaust through AOVs either in the head of the stairs or via an automatic opening window at the top of the stairs.
